The top five becomes the top four.
In this week’s mystery box challenge we have to make our own mystery boxes. In my mystery box I picked a lot of southern inspired ingredients chicken, buttermilk, red beans and rice, greens and jalapeños. But there’s always a twist! We had to take our dream mystery box and give it to the chef in front of us so Becky got my mystery box and I got Frank’s Italian style mystery box. I made delicious savory bread pudding with red wine tomato sauce, sautéed beet tops, and crispy onion strings on top. This dish landed me in the top three along with Monti and Christine. I kicked their butts and won my first mystery box challenge.
My advantage was to choose between three dishes that were created by Graham Elliot and enjoyed by three iconic celebrities not only in my community, but in the world. The first dish was a corn chowder with a cilantro marshmallow that was enjoyed by Oprah Winfrey. Crazy huh?! The second was a very fancy king crab gelle dish with edible flowers on top that was enjoyed by Jay-Z. I was just listening to H.A.M. before the challenge, so I didn’t see that coming. The last dish was a white tuna sashimi dish enjoyed by President Barack Obama. It was pretty delicious. I chose that dish to replicate and I felt the need to add my favorite fruit mango to it. Dumb mistake!
Gordon, Joe, and Graham thought it was a slap in the face. I thought it was delicious. Haha. Christine made a remarkable mirror image of Chef Graham’s dish and won the elimination challenge. Frank did alright too. The bottom three was Becky, Monti, and myself. Becky was safe due to fewer mistakes. Monti was eliminated for her use of heavy cream in the avocado purée. I was thanking Jesus for the win, and I seriously wish Monti the best.
